Good morning and happy weekend! For those in the San Francisco Bay Area, hang in there and get whatever sun you can in the midst of all the downpour. Imagine having multiple atmospheric rivers dumped on you but still being told that the drought is not over - not far from California raining record taxes on your and then landing itself in record debt!

Will we see an Indian-American POTUS in our lifetime?
When I entered Congress in 2013, I was the sole Indian American Member of Congress and only the third in U.S. history.
Just ten years later, and our coalition is now at five strong!
I look forward to welcoming even more Indian Americans to the halls of Congress in the future.

Over the last few years the composition of congress is clearly changing with more representation coming in from the Hispanic and Asian American population. Asian American numbers are still quite low at around 17 members but clearly increasing. You can see a clear trend in the number of Indian Americans vying for political positions and it's about time! Asian- and Indian-Americans are one of the most valuable segments of the population and political representation in the highest offices must parallel the representation in corporate c-suites.
The increasing number of Indian-Americans provides a glimmer of hope that the plight of immigrants and the green card backlog will be resolved sooner than later.
Also, I predict that we will see an Indian- or Asian-American become president in the next 20 years. They are already CEOs of some of the biggest companies, why not also the US?
USCIS opening up premium processing!
Starting Jan. 30, we are expanding premium processing for all EB-1 and EB-2 Form I-140 petitions. In the coming months we will expand to F-1 students filing Form I-765 and J-1 exchange visitors filing Form I-539.

This is not much we will take it. USCIS announced yesterday that they will start offering premium processing for I-140 petitions and start opening it up to F1 OPT and STEM OPT petitions in March and April, followed by certain I-539 petitions as well.
Chamber of Commerce urges immigration reform
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the nation’s largest lobbying group, has called for an overhaul of immigration law in its yearly legislative agenda. The group’s President and CEO, Suzanne P. Clark, stated that current immigration policies and the U.S.-Mexico border situation are not helping businesses, and that the constant uncertainty caused by hyperpartisanship and political power swings is making it difficult for companies to plan for the future. Despite some friction with House Republican leaders over its endorsements of some Democratic candidates, the group's executives are urging the divided Congress and the Biden administration to work together to address the issues with the current immigration policies.
Big shoutout to the Indian community
As Dr. Swati Vijay Kulkarni returns to India from her position as Consul General in Atlanta (@CGI_Atlanta) I wanted to give a quick tribute to her and our amazing Indian-American community in Georgia, who are great patriots, upstanding citizens, and good friends.

Did You Know?
Social Security and Medicare Tax Exemption
International students who have been in the country for less than five years are considered Non-Resident Aliens for tax purposes and are exempt from Social Security and Medicare Taxes? If you are an international student and receiving paychecks. Check your paystub to make sure that Social Security and Medicare are not being deducted. If they are, contact your HR right away to get it adjusted or refunded.
Quick Bites
The immigration history calendar project is a great initiative to not only catalog the history of immigration in a nation of immigrants but also to marvel at the same old arguments used today as in the past.
